When You Need Help Taking Action on Your Goals

People often ask me for help getting into action. “I’m a procrastinator.” “I make to-do lists that never get done.” “I know what I should be doing to grow my business, but I never do it.”

They want me to somehow push them (with love) from inaction to action. I never fall for it. Why? Because I understand that taking action is NEVER the real problem. The real problem is that they are trying to force themselves into action they aren’t ready for because they don’t really understand how to achieve their goals, how to create what they really want in their lives.

Action is actually the LAST step in the creative process, and if you try to push yourself into it too soon, it’s going to backfire. Here’s why…

First, when you force yourself into action, you are relying on willpower to do so. We know that willpower is a finite resource, and you’ll exhaust it long before you reach your goal. This sets up a cycle of disappointment and self-blame: What’s wrong with me? Why do I always give up on myself?

Second, your expectations always control your actions. This means that if you jump into action before you really expect to reach your goal, you’re setting yourself up to fail. Let’s say your goal is a 6-figure business, but you really don’t believe that’s possible for you. Last year you made $43,000. No matter how hard you try, you’re going to fall short of the goal. Because you are operating under the old paradigm. The $43,000 paradigm is controlling your actions. You’ll end up right where you were last time. Only this time, you’ll feel defeated and question if you “really have what it takes”.

YES! You do have what it takes. YOU have what it takes. Whatever your goal is. Whatever that wild desire is you have for your life. You have what it takes to get there.

Why then are so many of us are eager to jump into action before we’re ready?. We get an idea and bam! we’re off to the races taking action. When we do this, we’ve missed an important step: creating the expectation that the thing we want will become a reality. We go after something new, but we’re carrying our old beliefs, expectations, habits and limitations with us. So we end up getting the same results we’ve always gotten.

It feels like an exercise in futility until you truly understand the creative process. You’ve used this process your whole life to manifest everything in your life, both good and bad. However, you were probably doing in unconsciously. When you are consciously aware of how to use the creative process, you can break the old cycle, and finally get the results you desire.

The Creative Process

  1. Decide what you want.
  2. Expect to manifest what you want.
  3. Take action toward what you want.

Action should be effortless and automatic. In fact, it should be fun! When it is, you know that you are aligned with the thing you desire. When you have to force yourself into action, that’s a sign that you’ve rushed through Step 2 (or attempted to skip over it completely!).
